What sticks out in my mind on this particular Sunday Roast Club meeting was that I tried my first Cafe Patrón; which has not only ruined my life but also made it infinitely more enjoyable. I was also getting the eye from the lesbian barmaid all day, but back to the roast.

The pub is in an excellent location and is one of the most scenic spots in the city being right on the canal which makes it class for sunnier days with its added bonus of a huge screen outside showing sport for the ‘LADS’ and Beck.

It goes without saying that a full Sunday Lunch with a starter and drinks isn’t cheap but what you get in return is pretty good food in a far better than average spot.

As I’m the solitary veggie in the group I can’t speak much on the meat element of lunch except to give the overall scores which isn’t top on the list. From my perspective the starter was a bit of a let down on taste, I had the jackfruit bites but lacked any depth in flavour. Fairly decent portion sizes on the starters for all though if I recall correctly which left enough room to get through a main.

On to the mains:

It was a classic veggie wellington this time comprising mainly of sweet potato which did have plenty of flavour and was executed well. I do appreciate a large dish of vegetables that everyone can take what they fancy, put in the middle of the table which The Distillery did offer up. Plus a lot of gravy, which we have learnt can make or break a roast.

The place was very quiet not many others in at all so service wasn’t stretched and we got our drinks pretty snappy.  Speaking of, appreciated the flavoured water dispensers on the bar. Loads of Gin options, plenty of varieties for a ton of cocktails on the menu. If gin isn’t your bag there’s plenty of choice for whatever you’re into, did I mention cafe patron? (Kahlúa for the less classy amongst us)  Overall a good lunch, excellent supply of gins and ideal views. Scores show its definitely been up there as one of the favourites and for sure a pub we’ll be back to for lunches and boozing.

A toast to this roast.
